In December 2017/ January 2018 the 2 of us completed a 13 day trek in the Lang Tang Valley, Gosainkunda and Helambu regions of Nepal. We booked this with A One Nepal Trek, and the service provided, from the moment we contacted Mr Rajendra by email with our enquiries, to the drop off at the airport on our way home, was excellent in every way. We were picked up at the airport by Mr Rajendra and taken to our hotel and the next day he came to meet us to go through our paperwork and itinerary, give us our sleeping bags and kits and answer any questions we had. His professionalism right from the start made us feel very comfortable. Over the next 13 days we came to realise how knowledgeable Mr Rajendra was as he has been in the trekking industry for over 20 years in all parts of Nepal and Tibet.

As our trek was in winter and out of the peak season we were very fortunate to have Mr Rajendra as our guide also. Mr Mangal was our porter and we soon found that nothing was too much trouble for either of them.We chose a jeep to travel to the start of the Lang Tang trek at Syabrubesi, this was a good decision as the road is rough and our jeep was probably more comfortable than on the local bus.

The scenery and culture experienced on the three day trek to KyanjinGumba was fascinating. The tea houses where we stayed were comfortable and very welcoming and we really enjoyed the contact with our hosts. The sleeping bags supplied by A One Nepal Trek were -20C and of very good condition, and there were also extra doonas in the tea houses for anyone who might need one. The meals available were of a very high standard and we could choose from a varied menu of western and Nepalese food. We discovered Masala tea and couldn’t get enough of it. On our fourth day, a free day at KyanjinGumpa,Mr Rajendra and Mr Mungal took us up to Tsergo-Ri mountain 4,984metres high, this was a highlight with fantastic views of the snow-capped mountains all around and also views into Tibet/China region. The Lang Tang Valley is very beautiful and the return trip down the valley much easier, we loved seeing the stunning mountains from a different view. Seeing the villager’s way of life with their yaks, cows, horses and donkeys really added to the experience. Spotting monkeys on the first day was quite exciting. pantg

As the Lang Tang Valley is popular there were quite a few trekkers, but when we left the main Lang Tang Valley track and went towards the Gosainkunda area we had the tea house and walking tracks to ourselves. This was a wonderful opportunity to get to know our hosts in the tea houses where we stayed. The temperature was getting lower the higher we climbed to Laurebina and Gosainkunda. The views were incredible. We had half a day to relax and enjoy the icy sacred lakes of Gosainkund. The next day we crossed the high Lauribina Pass of 4,610 metres. This was especially beautiful with the ice and snow around us. The high altitude did make it hard walking, but it was most definitely worth it to see the fantastic views.

We were now into the Helambu region of our trek and looking south over the foothills was stunning. We spent the night at Thadepati and once again we were the only trekkers there. The tea house is set high up on a high ridge with magnificent views. Our hosts looked after us so well and we felt privileged to sit around their kitchen fire while they prepared our meal.Onwards we walked for 2 and a half days through many more villages now as we were in the foothills and roads connecting villages were more common. We saw village life with children attending schools and a lot of rebuilding of homes destroyed or damaged in the 2015 earthquake. Our final day was mostly downhill through the Shivapuri National Park, a lovely walk through dense forest and then little villages to Sundarijal where we were driven the hours drive back to Kathmandu.

This was an amazing trip of a lifetime trekking in Nepal, everything went to plan. We are extremely happy that we chose A One Nepal Trek to be our trekking company. Mr Rajendra speaks very good English and his expertise on advising us with the altitude and all aspects of the trek made for a very enjoyable and safe trekking holiday. Mr Rajendra and Mr Mangals commitment to our wellbeing throughout the trek was outstanding.
